Help to Claim: Team Leader



Our Help to Claim project delivers support to local claimants of Universal Credit, up to the first payment. It provides welfare benefits, budgeting and help-to-claim information and practical help including help with making a fully online claim.


We are looking to recruit a Team Leader for our Help to Claim service with

good organisational skills, excellent communication abilities, as well as a commitment to the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice Service. Experience of the advice sector would be an advantage.


Citizens Advice Telford and the Wrekin (CAT&W) has a significant track record of developing services that support those with complex advice needs and that ‘reach out’ to the most vulnerable and excluded in our community. Last year, we helped over 15,000 people with around 20,000 problems from our core delivery site in Wellington and our six outreach locations.


As the successful candidate, you’ll demonstrate, among other things:

  • Good knowledge of welfare benefits advice, money advice or similar discipline.
  • That you are a fully trained advisor with recent experience of giving advice.
  • That you have basic knowledge of Universal Credit and the application process.
  • Have at least one years’ experience of maintaining a caseload.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy environment and coordinate the day to day running of a service.


Hours:                                                           24 per week (negotiable)

Salary:                                                           £24,000 FTE pro rata (actual £15,568 pa)

Employer’s Pension Contribution:             Government scheme: Auto enrolment

Responsible to:                                            Chief Executive Officer

Leave:                                                             8 Bank Holidays + 25 days leave – pro rata

Contract to:                                                   March 2020 in the first instance
